MILLIONS
SUFFER FROM SERIOUS SLEEP DISORDERS
THAT RENDER THEIR SLEEP INEFFECTIVE.
Many
do not even realize that they suffer from sleep-related illnesses:
...medical disorders that can damage
their health and rob them of the energy to enjoy life.
-They
may know that they are tired, or not functioning as well as they
once did--but without recognizing how dangerously sleepy they have
become. They may blame their symptoms on long work hours or stress:
without realizing that they suffer from medical problems that can
and should be treated.
-They may
think that their bed partner's complaints about their snoring
and sleepiness are exaggerated...and find it impossible to believe
that heeding those warnings could save their lives and their
health.
CAN
YOU RELATE TO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING?
Wouldn't
I know if I snored horribly or stopped breathing in my sleep?
Probably
not unless someone told you about it. Sleep is the one time
we cannot "watch ourselves". Some people quit breathing hundreds
of times a night and it never wakes them up!
"I
wasn't asleep! I was just resting my eyes."
Sleepy
individuals are often the last to be able to recognize their
sleepiness. This fact accounts for what highway patrolmen
look for when determining whether a wreck resulted from falling
asleep: a lack of any 'skid marks'. Sleepy drivers usually
don't recognize their impairment and make no attempt to brake.
The consequence? High impact crashes with high mortality
rates.
If
you are among the millions of people who suffer from a significant
sleep-related illness, you should learn more--because your problem
may be serious, and because there is something you can do about it.
